Can I bring my children?

We’d love to have you! We have a number of young families in our congregation. We offer Sunday School at 9:30 AM during the school year. During services, we have a special children’s sermon, offer bags with coloring books and age-appropriate activities, as well as having a staffed nursery.

We have communion on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month, every Wednesday, as well as on special services such as Easter and Christmas. We have a gluten-free option, as well. Just let us know! We have our First Communion classes when children are in 4th grade. The ELCA (Evangelica Lutheran Church of America) offers open communion to all Christians.

Gilbert Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Pastor Elizabeth A. Eaton serves as the presiding bishop of the ELCA whose headquarters is in Chicago. What should I wear?

You don’t need to wear a dress, suit or a tie! Some dress more casually; some more formally. We’re happy to have you.

What are worship times?

Service times can be found on the bottom of the page. Throughout the year, we meet weekly on Wednesdays for a casual communion service at 6:30 PM. During the summer, we meet at 9:30 AM on Sundays for worship with fellowship at 10:30. During the school year, worship on Sundays will be at 8:15 and 10:30 AM with fellowship at 9:15 and education at 9:30 AM.


We’re located at 135 School Street in Gilbert, IA. We’re just a five minute drive north of Ames.
